Things don’t always fit into boxes. We’ve been working on this site long enough to realise that the best gifts aren’t always wrapped up with neat little labels attached, and that cramming them into just because you need to file something away is somehow disrespectful to the gift itself. So here’s where those things go.
It’s not a junk drawer. Let us be clear on that front. Nothing’s ended up here because we forgot about it or got bored trying to categorise it. Everything in this section has had to earn its place on the site just like everything else. It just means we spent some time looking at it, arguing about it and ultimately deciding it was awesome enough for you to see. The only criteria it didn’t meet was that it didn’t fit into any of our existing categories. Consider that a problem with our filing system, not the quality of what’s inside.
This is usually where you’ll find the gifts that made us raise an eyebrow. The ones that someone sent a link for saying “have you seen this” and everyone paused for a second because it’s just a little bit defiant of categorisation. Not weird weird. Not novelty trash masquerading as cool. Genuine presents that exist just outside the 'proper gift’ boxes. The kind of gift that someone who has been paying attention will give you rather than someone who just needed to tick present off an assignment list.
Some of them are for people. People who fall into that dreaded ‘hard to buy for’ category because they don’t really fit into any of our boxes either. Some are for occasions. Or not occasions. Some of them we can’t definitively pinpoint, except to say that when we imagine giving it to someone, we always see a positive reaction playing out in our heads.
This page gets a good tidy every now and then. Categories get shifted when we update existing collections or add new ones that finally suit them. And new things show up when something magical catches our eye that we just can’t put. So when you finish shopping in here, think of it less like you’ve scoured the junk drawer and more like you’ve stumbled across that weird but wonderful bit at the back of the market that doesn’t have a sign, but always has the best stuff.
