There’s someone in your life who doesn’t need another poster, another mug with a lightsaber on it, and certainly doesn’t need another LEGO set they already own. Finding something for that person can be tricky. Officially licensed merchandise is saturated with middling efforts, and most of it is as uninspired as it sounds. We built this gift guide because we were tired of reaching for the easy answer.
We love Star Wars. Not just as some namby pamby cultural touchstone but like, legitimately love Star Wars. We have opinions on the original trilogy that we will never stop talking about and have put serious thought into what makes the perfect gift for the person who grew up with it and still displays it proudly. That person was at the forefront of our minds when we compiled this list. We understand that someone who loves something enough to display it around their home will not just settle for a reference. Instead, they want something that feels like it earns its place in their home and life without hitting you over the head when you walk in.
We carefully curated everything on this list. We put each potential product through rigorous testing; asking if it was actually worth giving as a gift. Not only was it recognizable and acceptable, but was it really worth it? A lot of ideas were cut because all they had going for them was the license. And what remained is smaller than most gift guides you’ll find. That’s the point.
Our list works for the child of ’1977 as much as it does the person who got into it last year. Whether it’s a birthday or Christmas, or that person who’s impossible to buy for because they have such high standards when it comes to their stuff. Some of these picks are subtle enough to work in any setting. Some of it wears it proudly on their sleeves because it’s unapologetically Star Wars. Both options are right depending on who you need to shop for.
We didn’t try to compile an all-encompassing list. We wanted to dig until we found the best iteration of the thing we were looking at.
