Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
There is a specific kind of person who will absolutely lose it over finding Leonardo or Raphael done properly on something they actually use. We know this person. Some of us are this person. The Turtles have been around long enough now that the love for them splits across generations in a way very few things do. There are people in their forties who watched the original cartoon on Saturday mornings and still feel something when they see that logo. There are kids right now who have just discovered them and have very strong opinions about which one is best. Michelangelo, obviously, but we will not argue that point here.
What we wanted to do with this collection is find the things that are worth owning rather than just worth buying. There is a lot of TMNT merchandise out there. A lot of it is low effort, the sort of thing that gets the licence slapped on it and ends up forgotten. We have no interest in that. What we went looking for were the pieces that treat the source material with some respect, things that a real fan would look at and feel like somebody actually thought about it.
That matters because the people you buy for in this territory tend to notice the difference. Someone who grew up on this franchise knows what cowabunga is supposed to feel like. They can tell when a product was made because someone cared and when it was made because someone spotted an opportunity. We tried to stay firmly on the right side of that line.
This collection works whether you are buying for a child who has just fallen headfirst into the cartoons or for someone in their thirties who had the figures as a kid and has never quite got over it. Nostalgia gifts are only as good as the object itself. A beautiful piece of something you loved as a child is a genuinely moving thing to receive. A cheap one just reminds you that someone did not try very hard. We tried very hard.
