TV

Some people watch television and some people live for it. The second kind are very easy to buy for once you understand what actually matters to them, which is not a novelty mug with a quote on it. It is the feeling that someone paid attention. That someone clocked which show they have watched four times, which universe they disappeared into for three weeks, which character they would defend in an argument until the room goes quiet. We built this collection around that second kind of person. The one who treats a season finale like an event. The one with opinions about cinematography who will share those opinions whether you asked or not. The one who genuinely mourns shows that get cancelled. We know this person well because several of us are this person, and we have spent long enough hunting down gifts in this space to know what lands and what sits in a drawer looking embarrassed. What we have found is that the best gifts for television lovers are almost never the obvious ones. The official merchandise tends to disappoint on arrival. The generic "TV addict" stuff insults the seriousness of the thing. What actually works are pieces with craft behind them, objects that treat the shows they reference as proper cultural works rather than branding opportunities. Art prints that belong on a wall rather than in a recycling bag. Books that go behind the scenes in ways an internet search cannot. Things made by people who care as much as the recipient does, which sets the bar high and narrows the field considerably. We have not tried to cover every show ever made. That is not what we are here for. What we have done is find gifts that any serious television fan would be glad to receive, regardless of their particular obsession, alongside things that speak to specific fandoms we think are worth honouring. Every item in here passed a single test. Would someone who loves television properly, who watches with intention and feels things about what they see, actually want this. Most things we looked at did not pass. These did.

Bluey

If you have a child under six in your life right now, you already know. Bluey isn't background noise they half watch while eating toast. It's the thing. The one that's on before school and requested again the moment they're home, the show that parents genuinely sit down and end up watching properly because it turns out it's actually brilliant. Which is exactly why gifts in this world land so differently to most character merchandise. We've been selective here because the honest truth is that not all Bluey products are made equal. There's a lot of stuff out there wearing…

Breaking Bad

Some shows leave you. Breaking Bad does not. Years after Walter White made his last move, people are still talking about it, still rewatching it, still arguing about exactly when Walt stopped being sympathetic and started being the villain he always had in him. That staying power is real, and it means the fans who love this show really love it. Buying for one of them is both easy and hard. Easy because the obsession runs deep. Hard because most of the merchandise out there is cheap and lazy, a Heisenberg silhouette slapped on a mug and called a day.…

Doctor Who

Sixty years of television and the fan in your life still gets handed a novelty mug with a Tardis on it. We think they deserve better than that. Doctor Who isn't a passing interest for most of the people who love it. It's the show that got watched from behind the sofa at age six and never really let go, the one that shaped how they think about stories, about time, about what it means to be brave when you're frightened. Gifts for that kind of devotion need to match the seriousness of it, even when they're fun. So we…

Game of Thrones

Some fandoms are casual. Game of Thrones is not one of them. The people who love this show really love it, in the way that involves rewatching specific episodes, having strong opinions about which house they belong to, and being able to hold an actual conversation about whether the final season was a betrayal or just a disappointment. Buying for someone like that is either very easy or very hard depending on whether you know what you are doing. We went looking for gifts that respect the obsession rather than patronise it. That meant ruling out a lot. The generic…

He-Man

There is a particular kind of person who grew up in the eighties with a Castle Grayskull playset and the absolute conviction that He-Man was the most powerful man in the universe. That person is now a grown adult who still feels something when they hear the name. We know this because some of us are that person. And finding the right gift for them, or for ourselves if we are being honest, is not actually that hard once you stop looking in the wrong places. The problem with He-Man gifts is that most of what exists is either cheap…

Peaky Blinders

There is a specific kind of person who has watched the whole series more than once, who quotes Tommy Shelby without irony, and who considers the Birmingham accent quietly underrated. You know exactly who they are. Finding a gift for them should feel as considered as the show itself, which is why we went looking for things that actually match the obsession rather than things that merely reference it. The problem with most fan merchandise is that it treats the thing you love as a logo opportunity. Stick a flat cap on it, print a catchphrase underneath, done. We weren't…

South Park

Some shows get cancelled and forgotten. South Park has been running since 1997 and somehow still lands harder than things made last week. That staying power matters when you're buying a gift, because a present built around something genuinely loved rather than briefly watched is a completely different thing to receive. The person you're buying for knows every episode. They quote it without warning. They have opinions about which season peaked and they will tell you those opinions at length. What they don't always have is the right stuff to go with it, because most South Park merchandise out there…

Star Trek

There are Trek fans and then there are Trek fans. The ones who can tell you exactly which episode first referenced the Prime Directive, who have opinions about which captain they'd actually want running their ship, who will sit you down and explain with complete seriousness why Deep Space Nine is the best television ever made. Buying for that person is either very easy or very hard depending on how much you know, and if you're not one of them yourself it can feel like trying to shop in a language you don't quite speak. We put this collection together…

Tardis

There is something about a blue police box that gets people. Not just fans, proper deep in the lore fans, but people who grew up with it on a Saturday evening, people who watched it with their parents or their kids, people who feel something shift in their chest when they see that particular shade of blue. We understand it completely. Which is why we took picking these gifts seriously. The problem with Doctor Who merchandise is that most of it is bad. Not just a little bit lazy, genuinely bad. Cheap plastic with a logo slapped on, novelty mugs…

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

There is a specific kind of person who will absolutely lose it over finding Leonardo or Raphael done properly on something they actually use. We know this person. Some of us are this person. The Turtles have been around long enough now that the love for them splits across generations in a way very few things do. There are people in their forties who watched the original cartoon on Saturday mornings and still feel something when they see that logo. There are kids right now who have just discovered them and have very strong opinions about which one is best.…

The Big Bang Theory

There is a specific kind of person in your life who has watched every episode at least twice, who references Bazinga in actual conversation without irony, and who owns at least one item of clothing featuring a superhero they could write an academic essay about. Finding something for them that they do not already have is harder than it looks. We know because we have tried, and we have been burned by the obvious stuff that any passing fan already picked up three Christmases ago. So when we built this collection we started from a different place. Not what exists,…

The Simpsons

Thirty five years in and the show still lands. That is not an accident and it is not nostalgia doing all the heavy lifting. The Simpsons earned its place in the culture by being sharper and funnier and stranger than almost everything around it, and the people who love it properly know the difference between someone who watched it occasionally and someone who can quote the monorail episode from memory. That distinction matters when you are buying a gift. We put this collection together because most Simpsons merchandise gets it wrong. It leans too hard on Homer looking dopey or…

The Walking Dead

Some fandoms are casual and some are not. Walking Dead fans are not. They have watched every season, they have opinions about Shane that they will share with you at length, and they have almost certainly told you at some point that the comics were better. Buying a gift for someone like that takes a bit more thought than picking something off a supermarket shelf with a zombie on it. We know because we've been on the receiving end of that kind of gift. It lands wrong and everyone knows it. What we wanted to find instead was the stuff…

Thundercats

There is a particular kind of person who, the moment they hear that theme tune, stops whatever they are doing. It does not matter how old they are or how sensible their life has become. Thunder, thunder, Thundercats and something just switches. We know this person well because most of us are that person, and finding the right gift for them is either very easy or very badly done, with almost nothing in between. The badly done version fills charity shops. Generic merchandise with the logo slapped on as an afterthought, stuff that says the giver recognised the name but…

Walking Dead

There is a particular kind of fan who watched the first season of The Walking Dead and never really left. Years later they still have opinions about the Shane situation, still feel something complicated when they think about the prison arc, and still believe Rick Grimes deserved better. We are those people, which is exactly why we put this collection together ourselves rather than leaving it to someone who just knows it as a show that used to be on. Buying for a Walking Dead fan sounds easy until you start looking. The official merchandise tends to be either too…
