Hockey fans care. A lot. We’re not saying that as a slight: being a fan of the NHL is a commitment. It’s not based around a team’s winning percentage or your calendar. When you love hockey it becomes part of how you speak, where you spend your Sunday evenings, and how you track an elastic band’s precise flight path when it gets deflected by your favourite player. If you know a person like this buying for them is easy. If you don’t? Well, it can be pretty damn difficult.
At Cult we’ve seen that particular issue play out many times. Loved ones see that someone else has found something NHL related and just gone for it. We’ve seen too many plates, toilet brushes and socks that just look like they wandered into a sports store and someone snapped whatever they had in stock. It’s generic, it’s soulless and it misses the mark on what makes someone special as a fan.
That’s why we built this collection. We talked to fans. We researched forums and Wikipedia pages and NHL blogs. We gathered info and compiled a serious list of teams that we had to turn into packages anyone would love receiving. It took time and energy. Some teams gave us a clear path to amazing gifts. The great thing about hockey is that there’s such a broad mix of fans. We have folks who grew up watching games at ungodly hours local team dreaming of one day making the NHL. We have newer fans who came to the sport during a huge playoff run and are slowly becoming timeworn veterans. We have people who actually play hockey and people who would tear their arm off to play but love the sport just as fervently from their couch. Whoever they are and wherever they’re from they have one thing in common. They care about the game and they can taste the difference when someone buys them something that doesn’t.
