There’s a type of fan who doesn’t need convincing. You know the ones. They could probably recite every championship run, every Bad Boys story, every player who ever stepped foot on the Pistons roster from way, way back when most people consider digging. Purchasing a gift for that type of fan can be incredibly easy or incredibly difficult based entirely on your willingness to put effort into it. If you guess wrong, it’s obvious. You just threw the first logo’d thing you saw at them. But if you hit that sweet spot… If you really put some thought into it? Not jerseys. Not coffee mugs. T-Shirts, heck even footballs aren’t on this list. We wanted gear that a TRUE Pistons fan would gift themselves if they had unlimited time to browse Reddit and wear Yelp endlessly. Let’s be honest, most folks don’t have the time to do that. And that’s where we come in.
Detroit’s fan base is special. One of the most loyal in the NBA. There is a sense of pride that exists in rooting for the Pistons that goes beyond your team’s recent successes. Because when you’re from Detroit, or you just love what Detroit stands for, supporting those teams runs deep. Those fans aren’t craving novelty. They want quality. They know what the team means, and want gifts that reflect that instead of just slapping a wordmark on a garbage product.
That was our measuring stick. We looked at every product and asked ourselves if we would give it to the person we know who loves the Pistons, or if we’d feel bad knowing they knew we didn’t put any thought into it. Lots of worthy gifts got cut. Too generic, too cheaply made, and quite obviously made by someone who doesn’t watch Basketball altogether got tossed immediately.
