Liverpool
Scousers take pride with them everywhere they go. It’s a pride so specific, so worn- in that you hardly need to spell it out to someone who spent their childhood within a stone’s throw of the Mersey. It’s not all football. Though obviously it’s also very much football. It’s the music. The humour. The way that city stands up, knows what it achieved and isn’t afraid to say so. Buy a gift for a Scouser and you’re buying for someone who feels every piece of that like it’s in their bones. Miss with that gift and you’ve missed quite easily.
We’ve curated this collection because there’s a huge gap between getting a Liverpool gift right and getting it wrong, and not enough is said about it. Negative space, if you will. Too many merch shops stock the novelty mugs with scrawled-on fonts, or the blanket-shop red garbage that could be from any set of fans in any city. Worse still are the offerings in tourist shops across the country that anyone with half a connection to Liverpool will spot at twenty paces and discreetly sling to the bottom of their tote.
(Give us a bit more credit than that).
Instead, we looked for things that earn the reaction. Gifts that will get a holder, from Allerton or Anfield or Croxteth or Prenton Pier picking it up and actually feeling something. Because it doesn’t just nod at Liverpool – it gets it, properly. That might come from the football you know and love us for, done with real care and consideration. It might be a deep dive into everything musical that city has given us – because let’s be honest, you cannot have a conversation about British culture without mentioning Liverpool at some point. It might be something celebrating Liverpool itself; from the way the waterfront shines on a sunny day, to those Georgian streets that sneak up on you, to architecture that constantly surprises people who haven’t looked hard enough.
Because trust us when we say, there’s plenty to celebrate. We only picked things we genuinely think a Scouser would smile when they see them. We didn’t mean bitey, skeptical smiles. Naked grinned delighted squeals? That’s the stuff we went for. Laugh in someone’s face if they say otherwise.
