Five years is not nothing. It’s when a relationship progresses from the rushed-updates-over-coffee in-between-two-other-committments phase into something hopefully closer to what you actually imagined. You really know each other by now. The little stupidities that poke each other every morning, the private jokes that require no context, the way your person lifts their coffee mug without ever thinking to ask. You deserve to celebrate that properly, not with whatever you could pick up whilst eating your lunch because you forgot about the date. As such, the traditional fifth anniversary gift of wood seemed like either a wonderfully limiting or extremely confusing concept. We’re team wonderful. Wood is cosy and longlasting and artisan in a way that fosters care and attention - exactly the vibe you want your fifth anniversary gift to give off. So we ran with it rather than hoped nobody noticed it wasn’t there, tracking down craftspeople and objects that honour the tradition by imbuing it with meaning rather than blindly adhering to it. Naturally we didn’t limit ourselves exclusively to wood tho. Some of our selections brush up against the tradition a little, simply because they felt like the right fit for the celebration and the couple celebrating. After five years you are buying for someone you know intimately. You literally know their favourite colour, the item they’ve been considering for months, the thing that would make them feel truly recognised. We wanted this collection to enable that. Sensible gifts for sensible couples. Things that exist in the real world for people who actually live in it. Not because we wanted to dump every wooden thing we could find in a corner and call it a ‘gender neutral anniversary gift collection’. Everything we’ve included here has passed the test we apply to everything we feature on Remood. Would we give this to ourselves? To our partners? To someone that we loved and wanted to mark a moment for? If the answer was no then it didn’t made the cut. Period. There’s plenty here that we would gift ourselves too.
