It comes around every year at the exact same time and yet every year it still manages to take people by surprise. The lists half jotted down in a notes app, the panic purchases of mid December, the gifts that arrive promptly and feel pointless the second they do despite costing a fortune. We’ve seen that cycle for years now and we built this shop to put a stop to it.
We wanted simple things. The best stuff to give the people you love at Christmas. Not an internet warehouse catalogue thrown onto a page. We wanted a tight selection of considered ideas that we actually believe in. Every product here we chose ourselves and asked ourselves one question of each;
‘Would I be happy to find this sat underneath my tree?’ Not ok with it. Not appreciate someone buying it for me. Happy. Literally.
That eliminated quite a lot. The ‘guess what everyone likes’ hamper nobody gets excited to open. The novelty gift that incicits a muted chuckle before heading for the drawer. The candle that becomes yet another candle to join your other eleven. None of that is here because none of that is good.
Instead we’ve focussed on the people that are hardest to buy for. Because let’s be honest, when Christmas rolls around isn’t everybody on your list a little bit difficult? The Mum that says they want nothing. The Friend who already buys themselves everything they want. The Partner you can never read on Christmas presents. Like I said we’ve all got them. We’ve been buying for them for ages and we know what works and what doesn’t.
Gift buying is high stakes. Unlike other days of the year there’s more riding on it. More chance to embarrass yourself quietly but somehow have it felt by everyone. Have a birthday present backfire and sure, it sucks but nobody takes notice like they will when you stuff up at Christmas time. When it’s sitting in a room full of feeling, full of people who notice.
That’s why we kept this short. Less stuff. Better stuff. Curated properly. So you can pick whatever is right for you and your difficult person and know that it doesn’t need volumes of other stuff wrapping it around to feel like enough. Just right does.
