Man Cave
Every man has a place that is his own little sanctuary; his corner of the house that he retreats to without apology and often doesn’t come out from. Maybe it’s a garage with a dartboard and a beer fridge. Maybe it’s an extra room with a projector screen and shelves upon shelves of nerd treasures. It doesn’t matter where it is, it matters that it is and that he’s made it feel like somewhere you’d want to spend time.
Buying gifts for that place is one of our favourite kinds. Gifts for man caves and similar places don’t suffer from your typical Giftmas anxiety. There’s no fretting about whether it’ll find a place somewhere or end up on the shelf until who you’re buying for forgets you ever gave it to them. Because when you buy for a guy’s personal space, you know where it’ll go and you know he’ll use it.
We’ve carefully curated this list with that sort of thing in mind. Nothing novelty. Nothing that’s going to get hung up for the purposes of a laugh and then forgotten about. We wanted things that make a guy’s room better in tangible ways he’ll appreciate. Things that earn their keep on the shelves or walls or bars and stay there forever.
See, there’s a difference between a gift giving the illusion of thoughfulness and one that actually does it. We feel like a lot of man cave style gifts give the illusion. It’s easy to slap a poster of David Hasselhoff on a gift and be done with it. But we wanted more than that. When we picked an item we asked ourselves: would I be happy to find this quietly doing its thing in my room? Or would I just chuck it somewhere and pretend I like it until my guest left? If it was the latter we didn’t select it.
You’ll notice that based on that philosophy the stuff that made the cut is actually pretty diverse. Some gear is more hobby specific; like we said every man cave is usually built around an owner’s biggest passion, may it be sport, whiskey, music or movies. But some of these are more home-wrecking — as in they’d honestly make any room you crashed in and relaxed inharder to like spending time in.
