Some Zelda fans feel the need to constantly tell you they’re into Zelda. You know the type. Others, you know them without them having to say anything. They spent forty minutes choosing a name for their horse that happened to be Epona. They abruptly stopped a conversation to point at an owl and make a rude gesture about Kaepora Gaebora. They have dozens of confusing opinions on which timeline is correct, and they will tell you every detail if you let them slip up just once. These are our people. We recognize each other. Likely because we are them in most cases.
Gifts for these kinds of people can be simple. We mean that, both easy and basic. Easy because their passion runs deep and Hyrule has given us plenty to draw from. Basic because cliché merchandise with a Triforce stamped on it doesn’t properly showcase what a series like this means to those that grew up with it. Those that maybe picked it up last year and somehow lost three months of their lives to it. Breath of the Wild will do that to you. Tears of the Kingdom will do that to you. Ocarina of Time will pull you right back in and do that to you.
So we’ve been picky. Picking things we feel not only celebrate the game, but the person you’re getting it for. These are gifts for the person that knows Link from Zelda, not the other way around. There’s a difference between someone seeing you and someone understanding you. Seeing you will get you a cool mug with a sword on it. Understanding you will get you something that lets the lucky recipient know you actually put some thought into what this game means to them.
We picked items that will be just as appreciated by the thirty something taking nostalgic trips into the past as the teen currently pouring 300 hours into their first adventure and who’s already planning their next trip. Whether you’ve been playing since the overhead days or blinked and found yourself playing, your love for Zelda will far out last the years it’s been published.
That doesn’t mean we included things just because they had a logo on it. We checked ourselves first and asked if we’d want it. Hint: for us that decision took about half a second.
