Star Trek
Meet Captain Picard. Oh no, wait you’re Captain Picard. We know Trek fans. The ones who know every episode off by heart. The ones who have opinions on which captain they’d actually want giving orders on their spacecraft. The ones who will happily sit you down and wax lyrical about how Deep Space Nine is actually the best television series of all time. Figuring out what to buy that person is simple if you’re in-the-know, and near-impossible if you’re not. If you’re not Trekgif.comense ourselves, trying to speak whilst laughing nervously and hoping you don’t inadvertently buy them some dire tat.
Solving that is why we put this gift guide together. Most merchandise aimed at Trek fans is awful. Lazy. Unimaginative. Too eager to throw a logo on something and call it a day. You know it when you see it, and nine times out of ten that’s what you see overloading the shelves at your local bakery concession in motorway service stations. We didn’t want any of that shit.
We wanted to dig until we found stuff that we felt a hardcore Trekkie would actually like. Gifts that have been put some thought and care into, rather than having a Starfleet patch stuck on a poorly-printed hoodie. For this guide we only selected things that we truly felt any Trek nerd would love to get their hands on. Because they’re not teenagers driving mothers begging for pimple cream anymore. Sure they started young, but a lot of Trekkies we know grew up with it, raised their children on it and return to it because it still has something to offer them fifteen, twenty years on. Optimism about the potential of us as people. Hope that one day, the future we see on screen might actually be worth striving towards.
Trekkie tattoo :)
Yeah, like that.
These gifts got that. They understand what Trek is and appreciates that a love of it is about so much more than just wearing the uniform. That’s why we’ve spent hours picking out art prints, kitchen accessories made with actual quality and gadgets you’ll actually want to use rather than collect dust after an obligatory “Oh thank you, I love it”.
There will be no filler. We didn’t scour Google until we had 70+ items that vaguely fit the bill. We put each and every product up against the same standard: If we were shopping for our beloved Worf or Geordi would we feel comfortable buying this for them? If the answer was no, you can bet it didn’t make this list. The bar we’ve set here is a lot higher than most gift guides. We think it needs to be.
