He-Man
Somewhere out there is a person who had a Castle Grayskull playset as a child in the eighties and believed with their entire heart that He-Man was the strongest man in the universe. That person is now an adult and they still kind of get hyped when they hear that name. We know this because some of us are that person. What we also know is that finding something for that person to gift them can be difficult…or if you’re being honest with yourself, finding something for yourself. And it’s not actually that hard if you stop looking in places that don’t understand your love.
The challenge with He-Man gifts is that a lot of what you’ll find is either budget rubbish that you’ll forget about quickly or ridiculous collector items priced well beyond reason with nothing actually worth consideration in the middle. We set out to correct that. Everything we have chosen here falls into the sweet spot of quality and usefulness. Gear that earns a place on a desk or shelf rather than tucked in a drawer by the end of February.
Particularly what we were after were gifts that feel thought through. Cushions with actual scenes printed on them rather than He-Man slapped in a corner. Gifts that show the recipient you’ve put some effort into considering who they’re buying for rather than just dumping them in the gift section of Amazon. Because there’s a difference between a gift referencing something you love and one that understands it.
The thing about He-Man is he kind of walks the line with nostalgia. It’s not liked ironically. People who like it, really like it and the best gifts around understand and honour that instead of just chuckling at it. We looked for products that respect the source material. The iconography, the characters designs and the world of Eternia that so many of us built our childhood dreams around.
We didn’t want to blow this list out too big. There are a handful of products we would honestly buy/shoot ourselves for or gift to one of our friends rather than lots of stuff we don’t really care about.
