Movies don’t get much bigger than Alien. Released in 1979, it lodges itself into your brain and never really comes out. Not the visuals, not the suspense, not even the sound of that motion tracker beeping across the darkness. If you know anyone with a great love for Alien they are not sporting diehard fan necklaces. They have strong opinions on which instalment holds up best, they will know when a poster has the typography wrong and they do not want a vague “space horror” gift that could easily belong to any number of movies. They want something that truly deserves its spot on their shelf.
So that is what we were looking for. Not the thing that instantly comes to mind when you type Alien into a search engine that already lives in a warehouse next to hundreds of other licensed products. We hunted down strange little trinkets and wonderful things that feel like they were curated by people who actually care about Alien. The Xenomorph is one of the most immaculately designed monsters of all time, H.R. Giger’s work is unnervingly beautiful and anything that pays respects to that greatness is going to receive more care and consideration here than a sticker being slapped on a tumbler.
We personally picked every single gift here using one criteria. Would we give this to an Alien fan who owns every piece of merchandise and knows the film backwards who would immediately be able to tell we didn’t put any effort into picking this gift. Sure, that weeds out a lot. But what made the cut are specific, well crafted, and were chosen with that uberfan in mind; the one that replays the Nostromo scenes and still discovers something new.
Hell, this assortment will work for fans of the franchise that came after it too. Aliens, Prometheus, everything that became part of one of the largest mythologies to stem from a single film. You have enough here to please the obsessed, the Friday night rewatcher, your friend who has the poster but not much else to go with it, and that person who is just really good at pretending movies are more high-brow than they are.
Alien isn’t a nostalgia thing. It is horrifying to this day. Your gifts should reflect that.
