Sixty years of television and the fan in your life still gets handed a novelty mug with a Tardis on it. We think they deserve better than that. Doctor Who isn't a passing interest for most of the people who love it. It's the show that got watched from behind the sofa at age six and never really let go, the one that shaped how they think about stories, about time, about what it means to be brave when you're frightened. Gifts for that kind of devotion need to match the seriousness of it, even when they're fun. So we went looking for the things that a proper fan would actually want. Not the stuff that turns up in every supermarket at Christmas, but the pieces that show someone has thought about what this show actually means. The art prints that would sit well on a wall rather than embarrass it. The editions and objects that feel like they were made for someone who cares rather than someone who just recognises the logo. We also thought about the different kinds of fan, because they are not all the same person. There is the one who grew up with Tom Baker and considers the classic series the real thing. There is the one who came in through Christopher Eccleston in 2005 and had their mind completely rearranged. There is the teenager right now who is only just discovering all of it and has no idea how deep the rabbit hole goes. We have tried to find things that work across that, gifts that don't require a decoder ring to appreciate but that also don't insult anyone who could name every companion in broadcast order. Everything here we picked ourselves. Nothing made it in because it was easy to source or because it fills a gap. We asked the same question we always ask, which is whether we would actually give this to someone we love who loves this show. A lot of options didn't survive that question. The ones that did are here, and we think they are genuinely the best of what exists right now for Doctor Who fans who have earned something better than a novelty mug.
