4th Anniversary
Four years in feels like one of those milestones that flies quietly under the radar. It’s not year one with all the fireworks, but it’s also not year five or whatever benchmark everyone else seems to judge their relationship by. If you think about it though, four years is the one. Four years IN together and you’ve passed the honeymoon period, the everyday dinners and date nights and the hard bits too. That’s worth celebrating.
Traditionally, the fourth anniversary is celebrated with fruit or flowers. Oranges. Lilies. Move over Father John Misty, we’re about to make symbols shiny again. When you really think about it though, celebrating four years with fruit or flowers kind of feels perfect. It’s ripe. It suggests something that’s settled into itself, found its shape instead of still figuring itself out. Now, most modern guides say things like linen and silk, which similarly feel luxurious in that subtle, Live-In-These clothes sort of way.
So fruit, flowers, linen and silk were our launch pad. We didn’t want to go over the top. Four years isn’t about spoobiness and theatrics. But it is about showing that you were listening, that you know enough about the person you’re buying for to get something just right. That’s difficult. So we took it seriously. Every item here has been considered under one question. Would we feel proud giving this as a gift? Not just would we stop and sigh with relief that we found something. Proud.
Some of our picks let you lean into the traditional fruit and flowers route with a bit of subtlety. Some of it is justreally nice things that we know a couple who have got each other totally feel like they deserve. We didn’t want anything in here to just be okay. We cut so many stuff that werefine! But this isn’t the time or place for fine.trust us.
That’s not to say some of these pieces aren’t fun or bold. There’s lots of room for that here too. But if you want to take someone’s breath away by actually remembering what week it is, start here. We’ve done the hard work so you don’t have to.
