Grandad
Finding the right gift for grandad is trickier than it seems. He’s probably had enough years on this earth to already own any given object, he’ll tell you that he doesn’t want anything and he genuinely means it in a way that nobody else does. He’s also the one person who will really notice if you’ve put some consideration into it. Those three things combine to make a lot of people reach for socks or a tin of biscuits and we get the thinking, but he deserves something better than that.
We built this shop because we’re over seeing grandads getting gifts that have been chosen for someone completely different. The ones that get stacked unopened on a sideboard because nobody really took the time to consider who he actually is as a person. The guy who spent forty years collecting weedicides*. The guy with jokes that nobody else gets. The man who insists on doing everything properly and has very strong opinions about how that’s done.
So we started looking for gifts that actually suit him. Gifts that aren’t just hallmarks of effort from afar, but gifts that land. Gifts that he’ll use, or display proudly, or talk your ear off about. We focused on products that were built well, because grandads seem to be the first generation that notice when something’s cheaply made and will say nothing about it politely while secretly thinking it. We looked for products with personality. Products that feel more thoughful than convenient.
Some of our picks are sentimental and nod to the fact that he’s your grandad and you were listening the last time he told you his life story for the 40th time. Some of our gifts are wonderfully practical; gorgeous versions of the things he already uses every day. None of it’s filler. We don’t stock gift sets that look nice on the shelves but are disappointing when it comes to opening. We avoid novelty for novelty’s sake at all costs.
The best gifts for grandad are the ones that make him feel truly seen, not just efficiently processed. That’s the standard we’ve set for every item in this collection. Anything that didn’t meet that has been vetoed.
