Father's Day
Father’s Day has a bit of an image problem. And we don’t mean that fathers are difficult to buy gifts for. We mean that, when most people remember Father’s Day is coming up, that’s pretty much where their brains stop. June rolls around and they head to the same aisle as everyone else and load up on tin filled with baking stuff they’ll never use, novelty socks, and bad poetry magnetized to a mug that promises to call them the best world champion at something they’ve never once claimed to be. We find all of that sort of embarrassing, to be honest, and we think most dads do too, even if they’re too polite to say anything.
So we went back to the beginning. We asked ourselves what we’d actually want to receive. Not what fills a gap in a gift list, not what looks good photographed next to a craft beer bottle for a lifestyle magazine. What would we hand over knowing we’d be proud to have bought it for them. The answers ended up surprising us a little; they were seldom the obvious thing. In fact, they were quite specific. Well considered. Gifts that recognise that dads are people with their own actual likes and dislikes, not just a market segment that needs selling to with wrench shaped everything.
We picked every single item in this collection ourselves. Some of our picks are for the dad who has literally everything and needs a gift that shows you were listening to him and not just browsing. Some of our picks are for the dad who wants something particular but would never buy it themselves because they’re always taking care of everybody else before them. Yeah, we noticed that trait too, and it’s incredibly common. We think that’s admirable and it’s worth using that to guide some of your choices. Some of it is for dads that you want to get to know just that little bit better, so you want the gift to speak volumes about you when you can’t be there in person.
We kept this selection small, intentional. There are only maybe a handful of categories, each with only a few products we actually think are worth buying. We don’t want to dump every product we’ve ever sold at you in a desperate attempt to trick you into hitting that ‘checkout’ button. If you see something that’s not here, it’s because it didn’t make the cut. We reject plenty of stuff. But we let these through because they’re great.
