Tetris
Some games you play, other games you play forever. Tetris is the latter. It launched in 1984 and never looked back. Literally. Okay, that’s nostalgia speaking. What I mean is Tetris came out in 1984 and it has hardly ever left since. The ghostly symmetry of the blocks. That clunk when you finish a perfect line. The techno melody which burrows into your brain and nests there for years. Tetris infiltrated an entire generation’s subconscious, kept selling forever after and went on to capture new generations as well.
When we started curating this we weren’t thinking “oh cool, novelty gifts that Tumblr dads will buy for themselves.” We were thinking about the person who spent their midnight firebreak playing Tetris on their phone. We were thinking about the person who owned the Game Boy version so much their cartridge broke free from the plastic. We were thinking about the person who will still get unnecessarily competitive about their highscore. Chances are you know that person, and they deserve better than a keyring from a motorway service station.
Because every single thing in this collection has been carefully picked. We haven’t just thrown the Tetris logo on whatever and call it a day. Each product here resonates with what we love about Tetris. Whether it’s the geometry of the tetrominoes themselves, the bold colours, or just how satisfyingly logical it all is. You can gift these to a Tetris nerd and they’ll feel seen not marketed to.
Were our criteria. Would someone who actually loves Tetris care about this? Or is it just some shelf filler with a tetromino slapped on it for effect. A lot of products didn’t make that cut. That’s fine! That means what you see here are products we would pick ourselves, giftwrap ourselves, and feel joyous about handing over to someone.
We also love that Tetris transcends age. Your fourteen year old and your forty five year old parent can both have Tetris as their favourite game without either of them thinking “huh, funny how we both like the same thing.” With that range comes generational durability, letting it make sense as a gift for anyone no matter their age. Combined with that young old crossover we’ve hunted down products that speak to newcomers and nostalgics equally, without becoming so broad they mean nothing at all.
