R2D2
R2D2 is timeless. Not only for those that grew up watching the original trilogy and had their worlds changed forever with the first few beeps blasting out of a cinema speaker, but for every generation since who have been introduced to him and instantly know exactly who he is. He’s capable. He’s funny. And he can’t help but be loved.
Finding something for someone who loves him however is a little trickier. There are loads of R2D2 things. But the hard part is finding something that feels like it was made with him in mind. Of supreme quality. Too many options are just tat. Mugs. Key rings. Bits of plastic no one actually needs. That go to the back of a drawer and never see the light of day. We don’t want those. And we doubt you do either.
So we set out looking for pieces that we felt would fit nicely into a collection of somebody who cares. Not somebody who messed Christmas by randomly picking a gift out of a drawer. Every piece we chose had to pass a simple criteria. Would we be confident enough to give it to a hardcore Star Wars fan knowing they’d appreciate it? Not somebody who watched it once on TV and doesn’t know their Jar Jar from their Jedi. A Star Wars fan who knows which scene our favourite Droid saves the day in and has an opinion on it. That was the kind of person we kept coming back to when making our decisions.
Some of the stuff we picked you’ll use everyday. Some of it you’ll probably hang on the wall. We tried to pick some cool stuff across those categories. The best fans we know want gadgets they can use as well as displays that wow guests. The thing sat on their desk they interact with daily and the thing on the shelf they catch themselves staring at when they mean to be looking at something else.
Keeping it this small was difficult, but necessary. We could have filled this page with absolutely anything that ever remotely had R2D2’s likeness slapped on it. But these are the pieces we cut our teeth on. Chose because they’re well built, designed with care, and a genuine tribute to the best droid cinema has ever produced. He’s too awesome to deserve a novelty gift. And your loved one is too special to settle for less.
