Princess Leia
She didn’t wait to be saved. Remember that. That’s what everyone else forgets or maybe never realized in the first place. While everyone else lost their minds over Han and Luke and the new hot Guard qued up, Leia was building spaceships, calling the shots and yelling at Darth Vader. She’s been at the head of the Star Wars conversation for decades, and her biggest fans have never forgotten that.
That’s who we designed this collection for. Not the fan with the wall poster in their college dorm room, but the person who always felt something in particular about Leia. The fans who grew up with her and brought that same feeling with them as they grew up. The people who saw themselves in Leia; the sarcastic humor, the unwillingness to be belittled, the hair that would become iconic all on its own merit.
Finding things that celebrate her appropriately has been a challenge. Most Star Wars merch focuses on either lightsabers or helmets. Don’t get us wrong, that’s cool too, but falls flat when you’re shopping for someone who came here specifically for the General. We put time into this. Hours sifting through internet rabbit holes to discover products that feel more curated. Articles that pay homage to her rather than throwing her on a Funko Pop because she sold less toys than most of the males in her franchise.
Everything we’ve selected we would buy for ourselves. That was our qualifier. If we weren’t sure we’d give this to one of our Leia loving friends would we put it here? Would it not only fill a stockings but actually land? Some stuff came dangerously close of making the cut that we didn’t feel checked those boxes. Inspired more by the franchise than our general herself.
Thankfully what we’re left with is special. Some of it’s art, some of it you can wear, some of it you’d display on a coffee table and admire. All of it recognizes her for who she is beyond carrots and Leia lights. Leia was funny and angry and political and wonderfully, inspiringly courageous. The best Leia gifts understand that. These do.
