The music fanatic in your life already knows more about this than you ever will. They’ve got playlists to match your mood and ten they didn’t know you had. They get personally invested in albums and speak about how this one song owes them like it’s a debt. Trying to buy them something is like walking into the middle of an argument you’ve been avoiding since college.
No judgement, we’ve been there too. That’s why we built this selection to get past it. Not with some baby-play it-safe options that only scream music giftcard shoved into something vaguely music-themed. Think less@hasstand? treble clef coffee mug, more@TheSmiths? printed shoutsheets. Delving this deep into taste isn't necessarily about having the answers, it's knowing what questions to ask. We put music first and considered: if someone actually knew their stuff, would they think this was good?
Hint: if you work here and you probably wouldn’t.
That got us somewhere. We ended up with a collection that's truly taste-based. If you're someone that knows your music you'll see that immediately. These aren't just gifts. They’re gifts that sing.
Some are useful. Actually useful. Stuff that’ll make someone’s listening life more enjoyable, or just fits right into the life of a person who plans their day around “what are you going to listen to next”. Some speak to the intent behind the obsession. Music isn’t mere background noise to these people, it’s a full lives lived intrapersonally and should be treated as such.
We're not trying to cater for every music enthusiast under the sun. We don't want to give you 200 things just in case they like indie or metal or EDM. Short list. The best lists always are. We only included stuff we’d give and are currently giving, to people we care about. Whenever we really want to get something right.
Some of it we already own ourselves. Case in point: One of us bought something from this website before it was finished being compiled. We took that as a sign we were on the right path.
